The Northern Lights 6th grade Minnesota Studies curriculum will be revised in the next year to align with new Minnesota Department of Education social studies standards. We seek a college intern to support the development, design, and production of Northern Lights revision work happening in the fall and spring of 2025-26.

Strong initiative

Detail-oriented, thorough, and able to meet deadlines
Familiarity with or interest in learning about K-12 academic standards and curriculum alignment; social studies, history, or ethnic studies content knowledge
Related skills in any of the following: writing leveled texts, research, editing, copy-editing, spreadsheet proficiency, social studies content knowledge/experience, social studies pedagogy knowledge/experience, ethnic studies pedagogy knowledge/experience, teaching experience (especially middle school), experience using the Northern Lights curriculum, knowledge/experience with differentiation for Special Education and/or English Language Learners

Student Responsibilities

Read and familiarize oneself with the Northern Lights curriculum.
Participate as needed in meetings related to the Northern Lights revision. 
Support communication and project management with stakeholders, internal, and external partners. 
Support file organization and archiving of revision work.
Support curriculum writers in drafting activities and annotated teacher edition text. 
Support copy editing and quality assurance review of chapter drafts and supporting curriculum materials. 

Knowledge Intern is expected to gain

Experience aligning curriculum with academic standards
Knowledge of stakeholder priorities in the social studies K-12 sphere
Opportunities to network with education professionals at the K-12 and higher ed levels
Experience working in the new MDE social studies standards, including new ethnic studies content standards and pedagogies
