The Teacher Education & Curriculum Development (TED) Team coordinates teacher professional development and develops curriculum materials to support educators’ instruction of history and social studies. TED also oversees social media promotion for MNHS educational programming around the state, as well as promoting resources, opportunities, and other items of interest to K-12 teachers. This intern will coordinate social media and communication efforts for the TED team plus all MNHS K-12 programs and services (except MN History Day). The major focus is on research, implementing a strategy for Instagram and Facebook, planning a calendar of posts, updating social media on a regular basis, and creating monthly newsletters. Other projects may include future planning and strategy for K-12 Programs and Services social media, analytics and data analysis, creation of images and videos in collaboration with Strategic Communications, and other duties as assigned.

Student Qualifications

 Undergraduate junior or senior able to work well independently and in a team setting.  Experience planning, developing, and implementing projects, conducting research, video creation and building good working relationships with a diverse pool of people is required. Student must be self-motivated, comfortable using social-media technologies, possess excellent written communication skills, and be able to think creatively.  Experience with Facebook, Instagram, and/or other social media outlets required. Experience with education and/or history is preferred. Experience with engaging students in a variety of contexts is a plus. 

Student Responsibilities

Communication
Work with Teacher Education staff to research, design, develop, and implement social media plan
Develop content for Instagram and Facebook (@HistoryEdMNHS)
Research online tools, social media strategies, and make recommendations for future initiatives
Attend social media meetings with supervisor and strategic communications as appropriate 
Create monthly newsletters to engage constituents
Projects
Increasing Instagram and Facebook engagement
Conducting research to make recommendations for growing engagement with the teacher audience
Suggest, develop, and oversee other projects as assigned
Knowledge intern is expected to gain: 
Experience developing content, engaging an audience, and managing social media platforms
Project management experience and professional communication skills
Pedagogical strategies, research, and resources for teaching social studies, including primary sources
Knowledge of behind-the-scenes planning and implementation of teacher professional development, curriculum development, and education programs in a museum environment

Knowledge Intern is expected to gain

Experience developing content, engaging an audience, and managing social media platforms
Project management experience and professional communication skills
Pedagogical strategies, research, and resources for teaching social studies, including primary sources
Knowledge of behind-the-scenes planning and implementation of teacher professional development, curriculum development, and education programs in a museum environment
