Music Collection

49 The Minnesota Music Collection contains examples of music written and performed by the people of the state. A great variety of styles and types are represented, including polka, rock, pop, jazz, blues, classical and folk.

The music is performed by individuals or groups: duos, combos, bands, orchestras and choirs. The collection is multicultural with recordings by Native Americans and immigrants from all parts of the world. It features big names like Bob Dylan and Prince as well as those who have made only one record in their lives.

Searching the Collection

To determine if the Society has recordings by your favorite artist or songwriter search the library catalog using the artist or songwriter's name as "author." To browse the LP, CD, and cassette tape titles, search by using the keyword "sound recordings." The many delightful examples of sheet music written about Minnesota or by Minnesotans can be found by searching on the title or composer.
