Guided tours of the light station leave from the visitor center throughout the day. Visitors can also tour the site and climb the lighthouse on their own.
The exhibit area features artifacts and presents information on the history of the light station and the North Shore including facts about Lake Superior shipping and a display about shipwrecks.
Every visitor is encouraged to watch the short introductory film "Split Rock Light: Tribute to the Age of Steel" (22 minutes). Using stunning color photography, the film shows the history of the lighthouse, including how and why it was built, and the life that the keepers and their families experienced at this unique outpost.
The visitor center museum store features items related to maritime and nautical themes, the north woods, wildlife and environmental topics and Split Rock Lighthouse merchandise. Items include sweatshirts, t-shirts, mugs, Duluth packs, posters, toys, jewelry and many locally crafted items. The store is open the same hours as the Visitor Center.
If you can't make it to Split Rock Lighthouse, you can find many souvenir items online.
The visitor center is air conditioned and features modern restrooms. Explore our visitor amenities page for information on accessibility, parking and more.
