Daily Tours

Guided tours begin every half hour based on availability and are 75 minutes. The last tour begins at 3:30 pm.

Weather Forecast



Parking is available on Summit Avenue and adjacent streets. The area immediately in front of the site on Summit Avenue is designated 2-hour parking for visitors.


A small gift store is available at the first floor ticket desk. The store features books and items related to the historic site, James J. Hill and the railroads, current gallery exhibits and the history of the surrounding neighborhood.


There is no dining facility on site.


We do not have strollers available, however strollers are permitted on tours.


The James J. Hill House is available for meetings, lectures, classes, concerts, receptions, luncheons and dinners. Find out more about rentals.
The site is not available for weddings, receptions, birthdays, family reunions, etc. For these events please consider the Minnesota History Center or Mill City Museum.


Service animals such as guide dogs are permitted. Pets are not allowed.

First Aid

The site is equipped with both first aid kits and AEDs. Please see a staff person for assistance. All managers are trained in first aid/CPR/AED use.
