Detour Alert

The historic Carnegie Steel Bridge on County 118 remains closed to vehicle traffic. This is the main road that runs through the park. It crosses the South Branch Root River connecting the historic site with the parking lot. Visitors must access the site using County 5 to County 118.

Do not rely on online maps or GPS when visiting the main park or Mystery Cave area.

Entering Historic Forestville

Historic Forestville is located inside Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park

Visitors enter the park and can pay for a state park vehicle permit at the DNR contact station. Visitors then drive three quarters of a mile to the Historic Forestville parking lot, located south of the river and historic site. An interpretive kiosk is located in the parking lot; visitors then cross the 1899 iron bridge and purchase admission tickets at the Historic Forestville visitor center prior to beginning their living history tour experience.
