Knit Your Bit

Red Cross Poster, Our Boys Need Sox Knit Your Bit

Do you like to knit or crochet?

Make a scarf to be donated to veterans in the Little Falls area. The Charles Lindbergh House and Museum works with the Yellow Ribbon Network of Morrison County to deliver scarves to local veterans through a partnership with The National WWII Museum’s Knit Your Bit program. The project distributes hand-knit scarves to veterans, remembering knitters on the home front who supported the war effort by outfitting soldiers during WWII. Since its 2006 launch, the Knit Your Bit program has donated 50,000 scarves from all 50 states to veterans.

Scarf requirements

  • Hand knit or crochet a scarf measuring roughly 6” x 60”. Some patterns may call for variations on measurements. Please, no key-hole or potato chip scarves.
  • Use yarn that is machine washable and dryable in gender neutral or patriotic colors. Knit Your Bit does not accept fun fur or eyelash yarn.
  • Sew in all loose ends.
  • You may write a personal message to the recipient signed with your first name only. Please tie that message to the scarf (no pins).
  • Include your personal information written clearly on a separate note to Museum staff so you can be added to our database.
  • The National WWII Museum offers a variety of knitting patterns.

Drop off your scarf

Local knitters can drop off scarves to donate at the Lindbergh Museum during museum hours, or call 320.616.5421 to arrange a time to drop off donations.
